Richard I. Silver, M.D. joined Mohawk Valley Urology in December 2009.
He is board certified by the American Board of Urology.
Dr. Silver completed a residency in general surgery and urology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and a fellowship in pediatric urology at the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
His laboratory research interests focus on 5a-reductase, an enzyme necessary for normal male genitourinary tract development. Consequently, he has clinical interests in related abnormalities, such as hypospadias, undescended testes, and intersex conditions associated with ambiguous genitalia. Dr. Silver also has interests in voiding dysfunction, incontinence, and vesicouretereal reflux. His surgical interests extend from his fellowship training and include complex urinary tract reconstruction.
Dr. Silver sees patients of all ages in both the New Hartford and Rome offices. His main area of interest in the adult patient population is the medical and surgical management of urinary tract stone disease, especially in expectant mothers.
He performs both inpatient and outpatient surgery at Faxton-St. Lukes Medical Center in Utica, NY.
Dr. Silver has published 35 peer-reviewed articles and written seven book chapters.
